In the wake of Mel Martinez’s resignation from the U.S. Senate, conservatives wondered if Florida Governor Charlie Crist would appoint an interm senator with a moderate background, or a social conservative. Reid Wilson’s Crist’s list for Martinez seat grows longer, the author asked John Dowless about potential replacements:
“Politically, [Crist] would go a long way in appointing a social conservative,” said John Dowless, a Republican consultant and former head of the Florida Christian Coalition. “The reaction of the [social conservative] leaders would be positive, and they would view it as a positive step in their direction.”
